LAMDA Coach: Lis Durbin

“The students work so hard in their tuition with me - I am proud to see their continuing progress and the successful results they achieve in their examinations.”

Lis has been teaching theatre skills for more years than she cares to remember! As well as teaching in schools and colleges in Bristol she also ran her own Drama school before moving to the USA for eight years, where she taught drama in an International school and at two local theatres in Palm Beach, Florida.

She has directed for many of Bristol's leading theatre companies, including productions at the Bristol Hippodrome and the Bristol Old Vic. She began acting at the age of four, taking on the challenging role of a shell in The Water Babies!

Since that illustrious start, she has been fortunate enough to play leading roles in a score of plays including Under Milk Wood, Plaza Suite, Saturday, Sunday, Monday, Habeas Corpus and One Flew Over the Cuckoo's News. She has appeared in two Steven Berkoff plays at the Edinburgh Festival, as the Mother & Sphinx in East and as Clymemnestra in his adaption of Agamemnon. Her musical roles include Jane in Salad Days and, at the Bristol Hippodrome, Maria in The Sound of Music, Aunt Alicia in Gig & Chava in Fiddler on the Roof. Her roles for BSPA include Mrs. Sowerberry in Oliver and Lady Raeburn in Salad Days.
