Showdance Tutor: Karen Halliday


Karen’s experience as a performer includes both film and theatre, Musical Theatre tours, pantomime, Summer Seasons, with five years’ experience working at Pinewood Studios appearing in ‘The Labyrinth’, ‘Who Framed Rodger Rabbit’, ‘A View to a Kill’, and Stephen Spielberg’s ‘Empire of The Sun’, and more recently on CBBC television series ‘School for Stars’.


As a Creative Director Karen has directed and choreographed at some of London’s most prestigious theatres and venues, working alongside her fellow Company Director of Catch The Dream Theatre Company, and Musical Director Simon Carr-Minns at The Savoy, Prince of Wales, Prince Edward, The New Wimbledon Theatre, The Bloomsbury, The Shaw, and The Soho theatres, Directing Prize giving performances,  Royal Masonic Variety Shows, Carol Concerts, Cabaret’s, celebration Ball at The Grosvenor House Hotel, concerts at The Great Hall, Westminster, Cadogan Hall, Sloane Square, and co-directed The London Millennium service at St Pauls Cathedral.


As Head of Musical Theatre at Italia Conti Academy for over 16 years her work included course development, working alongside David Grindrod in association with the allocation of the Andrew Lloyd-Webber scholarship.


On July 11th 2013 Karen organised a team of 74 dancers in a Guinness World Record breaking attempt

She broke the World record - achieved along with 73 dancers jumping into splits simultaneously in 30 seconds – A record originally held by Le Moulin Rouge in Paris. This world breaking record can was seen in the 3rd season of CBBC television series ‘School for Stars’ aired in September 2013 and can currently be viewed on iPlayer.


Karen’s true passion is Musical Theatre – ‘watching an individual spontaneously respond to a piece of music – a script – a song can take your breath away’.
